Summary Review:

Calliope Day has just been called out by the prissiest girl in the fourth grade, Noreen Catherwood. As she stands up to Noreen, Calliope realizes they're enjoying the argument. How Calliope and Noreen make friends occupies the first part of the story, which takes us in Noreen's chauffeur-driven Mercedes to her mansion in the exclusive section of South Orange, New Jersey. There, Calliope passes muster with Noreen's proper mother, a control freak always fingering her pearls, and meets her African gray parrot, Baby. Calliope falls for Baby because he reminds her of her dead father. After a riotous show-and-tell with Baby at school, she kid- or parrot-naps him. The tone is light, the mischief is outlandish (but harmless), and the characters are appealing
